This song is still just going and going…
I’ve heard A LOT of covers of this song and this is definitely up there with the favourites. George Barnett covers Daft Punk but removes a bit of the disco and replaces it with a little more edge. The ONLY thing I dislike is that weird “I’m in a club” horn. Other than that, I love his voice, the shakers, the guitar, the drums and even the little electronic break down. This cover is definitely worth a listen.
A+ for bedroom recordings too.
I gave the new Daft Punk album, Random Access Memories, a listen and I already have favourites. This is “Doin’ It Right” which includes one of their big collaborations with Panda Bear. Panda Bear is actually one of the founding members of Animal Collective. I discovered this cool fact pretty recently and it completely blew my mind.
I’m going to use the top comment of this video as my mini review:
I love this comment because the first sentence is completely true. Knowing and loving Animal Collective music and now Panada Bear’s, the amount that I dig this song doesn’t surprise me. Also I love Discovery too (the band, not the album). This song didn’t remind me of them at first, but after seeing the comment, I can definitely make the connection.
I like this cover a lot for what it is…
I absolutely love the original and I think that the cover sort of destroys the feel that a classic Daft Punk song is supposed to have. The original song has this amazing disco vibe that you just don’t get anymore (because clearly disco is dead… right? wrong) and I think that’s what makes the original so special and what got it so much hype in the past few weeks.
Once you separate this cover from the original though (which I think is hard for a lot of people) it is truly amazing. The new instrumentals and the female vocals make it feel like an original song perfectly made for Daughters. I really dig this version and would listen to this when I’m in a more chill mood, rather than a dancey one.
So I feel really guilty about not posting for the past few days, so here’s something you can put on repeat and eventually you’ll forgive me. Last week I talked about Daft Punk’s “comeback” with “Get Lucky” and their new album, Random Access Memories due for release on May 21st.
Last week all we saw was a preview from Coachella, but even from that it blew up with a shit ton of views, remixes and people who don’t even keep up with new music talking about it. I also saw people putting the previews together, making it about 3-4 minutes long and calling it the official song. No thanks buddy, we all know you’re trolling. Well, here’s the official radio edit (trimmed down from the actual album version). Enjoy!
If you were ever a Daft Punk fan or still consider yourself to be one, this will surely make you smile. Coachella may not be as well known for releasing big stuff the way SxSW is, but this news was definitely up there for some. We heard rumours last year that Daft Punk would be releasing a new album, and finally at Coachella we’re getting a sample of what’s to come. In the video you can hear their new track “Get Lucky” Ft. Pharrell & Nile Rodgers, and see all of the collaboration for their new album Random Access Memories. Some collaborations include Panda Bear, Julian Casablancas, Todd Edwards and DJ Falcon, and more. The single drops April 15th 2013, which hopefully means we’ll be getting more, if not the full album by summer time. This preview warmed my heart and I am so looking forward to this!
