Reckoner- Radiohead (ethikly refuckulated)

I don’t care if this person doesn’t want me to share this. I’m going to anyways…

The other day, my friend Nick sent  me this song as a link through Soundcloud. We have this strange routine where we sometimes talk to each other and sometimes don’t. For some strange reason, when we start our conversations, it always begins with a link to an amazing song- new or old. I don’t know how this routine started, but it’s pretty interesting since we did originally connect based on our similar taste in music. Maybe now it’s the only thing left that we have in common? I don’t know.

Despite this strange friendship/relationship/acquaintanceship we have, I’ve always admired the music he creates himself. It really is all in the details when it comes to this one. Whether you like Radiohead or not, this song is definitely worth a listen. It’s a really cool take on the original and it sort of reminds me of being in a dream. Maybe that’s just me though. If you like it, apparently it’s still downloadable…  so you should get it.

“Doin’ It Right” Daft Punk ft. Panda Bear

I gave the new Daft Punk album, Random Access Memories, a listen and I already have favourites. This is “Doin’ It Right” which includes one of their big collaborations with Panda Bear. Panda Bear is actually one of the founding members of Animal Collective. I discovered this cool fact pretty recently and it completely blew my mind.

I’m going to use the top comment of this video as my mini review:

I love this comment because the first sentence is completely true. Knowing and loving Animal Collective music and now Panada Bear’s, the amount that I dig this song doesn’t surprise me. Also I love Discovery too (the band, not the album). This song didn’t remind me of them at first, but after seeing the comment, I can definitely make the connection.

“Voyeur”- James Blake (Bear//Face Bootleg Edit)

What an unreal mix of this song! I have James Blake’s live album and that thing soothes the crap out of me, and it can put me right to sleep (which I don’t mean in a bad way at all). This mix still has that soothing vibe, but in a completely different way that’s uplifting but raw, dirty and heavy all at the same time. I’m loving the base line and new slightly faster pace. Super chill, super rad.

Ps. James Blake in Toronto tomorrow night? Down!

“No Angels”- Bastille ft. Ella (TLC vs The XX)

I’ve clearly been on a Bastille kick today…

But luckily while on this kick I discovered this awesome track! It’s TLC’s “No Scrubs” mashed up with The XX’s “Angels”, with some Alfred Hitchcock thrown in (from the movie Psycho). I really love when artists make mash-ups and cover them. It’s so much more interesting than a regular cover and way cooler (although highly debatable) than a remix. Luckily artists do this a lot though. Here’s another one I love from Alt-J called “Slow Dre” which is a mash-up of Kylie Minouge’s “Slow” and Dr. Dre ft. Snoop Dogg’s “Still Dre”. If you know any more awesome ones let me know in a comment or on Twitter!

Mini Playlist of the Day: To Kill A King Collabs

I discovered To Kill A King through their collaborations with Bastille and I’m still slowly warming up to the stuff they do on their own. I don’t know what it is, but the remixes of their songs and the collabs that they do, they just hit me right away, and I know I’ll love the song right off the bat. Just like this song, “Funeral” remixed by Tyde.

Now don’t get me wrong, I don’t NOT like their own music. I actually think they’re usually very intricate and quite beautiful overall. It just takes me a few listens to really get attached. If you don’t feel the same then cool, but still check out out their collabs, covers and remixed songs because I definitely think there’s something especially magical there. I’m very fond of almost everything they do with Bastille so I’ve included a few of those below.

1. “Funeral”- To Kill A King (Tyde Remix) (above)
2. “Bloody Shirt”- To Kill A King vs Bastille
3. “These Streets”- To Kill A King ft. Bastille
4. “Oblivion”- To Kill A King (Bastille Cover)

“Get Lucky”- Daft Punk Radio Edit

Daft_Punk

So I feel really guilty about not posting for the past few days, so here’s something you can put on repeat and eventually you’ll forgive me. Last week I talked about Daft Punk’s “comeback” with “Get Lucky” and their new album, Random Access Memories due for release on May 21st.

Last week all we saw was a preview from Coachella, but even from that it blew up with a shit ton of views, remixes and people who don’t even keep up with new music talking about it.  I also saw people putting the previews together, making it about 3-4 minutes long and calling it the official song. No thanks buddy, we all know you’re trolling. Well, here’s the official radio edit (trimmed down from the actual album version). Enjoy!

“It’s Not Over Yet”- Panama

Stumbled onto this today- and just like the top comment, “I’m wondering why this doesn’t have 10 million views”! Okay, maybe I don’t actually expect it to have that many anyways, but the view count is still pretty low for it being up since late last year.

The EP with this song, “It’s Not Over” came out last November. Panama consists of 5 guys hailing from Australia. They’re music is generally very chill, upbeat and slides right into that indie-alternative genre.

“Your Love”- Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs

Anytime I play a song from this guy around people, I always get asked “Who is this?!” I usually reply and say “TEED” (because in my mind it’s pretty straight forward) but for some reason I always get blank stares. I then proceed to explain that TEED stands for Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs… and that’s where people get really confused followed by a “WHAT?!”

Yeah, sure he has a slightly confusing name and he’s not that well known but that definitely doesn’t mean that the music isn’t amazing. I’ve liked “Household Goods” and “Sickly Child” for quite a while now, but I’m just stumbling onto his newer-ish stuff. TEED hails from the UK and has been releasing stuff since 2009. His best known song to date is “Garden” which has over twice and many video views as all of their other songs combined.

N-Tracks

ntracks

So I used to do this thing on my Tumblr called “N-Tracks”.

It’s basically a list of 7 (unless I throw in a bonus or 2) songs that I’ve recently come across. The “N” stands for new as well as nostalgic, because I’ll come across both. Why I post those specific songs on the list is because I either want to share something that’s new to me (and maybe you) or to share something that I’ve loved for a while but haven’t heard in a while. I also started this as a way to keep track of songs that I come across, that way I can go back and revisit them. I usually include music that is indie-alternative and sometimes has an electronic or synthy flare. Today I made another list on Tumblr and decided to share it on here too. If people like the idea, I might continue them on here as well. Let me know your thoughts or recommendations below if you have any!

N-Tracks #14

1. “Not The Same”- Tanlines
2. “Open”- Rhye
3. “Reykjavik”- Brolin
4. “Down On Life”- Elliphant
5. “Wasted”- Camera2

NOSTALGIC:

6. “Nature of the Experiment”- Love In October (Tokyo Police Club Acoustic Cover))
7. “We Will Become Silhouettes”- The Postal Service

BONUS:

8. “Aquarium”- Nosaj Thing

“Half Shadows” TOKiMONSTA’s New Album

Um… HELLO!

TOKiMONSTA’s new album is out tomorrow and Noisey just released an exclusive listen on their site here.

I just had a listen and I think it’s great so far. I’m loving The Center, 808 and of course the video attached above, for Go With It ft. MDNR. With another listen or two, I feel like the album might grow even more on me. I also think I might like it much more than the first album already. I remember listening to some of her older songs and I don’t remember ever really saying, “Oh wow, I like this” right off the bat like I am with some of these new songs. Growth and progression is definitely a good thing in my books- and it seems like that’s what she’s doing.

Unfortunately I JUST missed her at the Full Flex Express Tour last year since she was on so early in the day, and most people didn’t start getting there until after she was done. Looks like she might just make it on to my list of shows to see this year in Toronto after all.
